Joshua walked through the woods, using his keen sense of smell to find the one who was hiding. He spotted a small dark tuft of fur and ran towards it, the pup squealing as he tried to run away. It was useless, Joshua had blocked him off in less than a second. He smiled at the cub as he tried to find an escape route. "Face it Ethanial, I've got you." He smiled bigger as his son giggled and snuggled into his leg.
A silence fell upon the forest before Joshua sniffed the air. He detected a strange smell, one that set the receptors in his mind alight. All his instincts were screaming "run!" and he grabbed his son by the tuft around his neck and began to do just that. He was nearly crushed by a tree merely moments later, as it fell to the ground. He looked back for a split second, to see a small fire, moving and growing quickly in his direction.
He sped up and when he looked back to the front he saw the cliff he was about to run off the side of. He tried to skid to a stop, dug his claws into the dirt and spun himself around when he realized he was going off, it wouldn't matter how hard he tried. He felt his back legs dangle but managed to finally come to a stop at his chest. He let Ethanial go onto the land, not sure if he would make it back up.
He tried to pull himself up with his forepaws and struggled to find footholds for the back ones. He finally locked his right foot into a hole in the cliff, ensuring partial safety. "Go Ethanial. Back up." His son quickly did as he was told, understanding the urgency of the situation. He watched his father struggle to pull himself back onto the land and whimpered, wishing he were big enough to help.
He howled happily as his father put his left leg onto the land. A shift in the earth caused him to fall on his unsteady feet. When he looked back up, the edge of the cliff was gone and his father with it. He howled in fear, and looked over the new edge, into the misty below. He couldn't see anything but some blurry brown fur. He ran downhill, trying to get to where his father was.
He jumped onto the rock, just a few feet from where he knew his father lay. Something picked him up and he kicked with all his might and growled. "Let me go, my dad's back there. I need to save him!" He yelled in fury at the figure who was carrying him.
"I'm sorry, Ethanial. Your father can not be saved. He would want me to take care of you." The voice said. Ethanial fell silent, the grim truth dawning on him. His father had taught him about death, but he never expected it to happen to his own father. His tears flowed rapidly, silently, but eventually his eyes closed in exhaustion. When he woke he was being placed on the cold ground, and it was nighttime. He was able to look at his new guardian, recognizing it as the eldest of their wolfpack. He knew this elder had a limp, was partially blind, partially deaf, and was too weak to hunt usually.
"Well how are we going to survive if neither of us can hunt successfully?" Ethanial hissed, angry that his life had changed for the worse in less than a day. "I'll teach you, and you will learn quick." The old raspy voice said. Ethanial sighed grumpily, not even sure what this wolfs' name was.

Auron was lying down with his head resting on his paws, seemingly asleep. His eyes were closed and his breathing was nearly silent. To the casual observer, he looked like a small (if somewhat fluffy) wolf- he was about 3/4 the size of a male wolf, and his kind were not exactly common. But if one took the time to look carefully, they could see he bore markings closer to a fox. He was a hellfox- the strange offspring of his fox father and his hellhound mother. He and his sister Aurora had been sojourning for years now, traveling to new places and learning everything they could. Auron's meditation came to an abrupt end as he heard a commotion somewhere nearby. He jumped up and began to run towards the disturbance. His silver and black coat giving him the appearence of a lost soul trapped on earth, and that sight alone was enough to make everything he passed go silent in dread.

The minutes ticked by slowly and Natasha laid there glumly. She watched the clock with fury, the ominous ticking getting on her last nerve. The steel bars were the only thing holding her back from ripping it off the wall. It was feeding time at the zoo, but they were still getting the food ready as they made her stay there and wait for it. She saw the door open and jumped onto her feet. She began to pace until the zookeeper finally got to her after feeding Inshinar, the male they wanted her to mate with.
She tore the meat apart, scarfing it down. Once she was done she clawed at the door until they opened it. She ran out and paced the length of her enclosure as Insh joined her. She snarled and bared her teeth at him but he ignored her. After about an hour she laid down in the fake cave they made for her and him. She looked through the glass at the people who held strange flashing objects. Some of the objects were fat, others thin, long, short, pink, blue. She imagined what the little people would taste like, probably tender. She sighed, knowing she would never learn.

Fell's tongue rasped over his lips as he watched a small golden orb materialize in front of him. A small satisfied huff misted in the winter air; finally after so much mind-killing practice he had done it. A spell, not just any spell, his first. A small smile ghosted his lips for the first time in months, for the first time since he had left the safety of the Helion; the safety of the Night Hunters... His smile vanished quickly, the depression of his isolation sinking back in again. His head fell towards the ground, mind veering away from the weak spell that floated through the air to him.
It made a small hiss as it flew by his ear, trying to pull the young male's attention back to his new found accomplishment. Fell's head rose so he could watch the ebbing golden orb that so out-glowed his own gold colored eyes. So much work for this little spell... Fell thought, moving to stand, and so little the rewards but a weak and dying orb. A snarl lashed out from his maw as he snapped his attention to a tree, the spell bursting towards the life giving trunk. The wood fractured and snapped where his spell had hit, a golden burst of light taking shape to flames as it burned a circular hole into the trunk. As soon as it had hit it was finished, the wood black and imprinted with a new mark.
Fell felt awe settling over his anger like a blanket of ash from a new burned forest. Though not usually a violence lusting soul, Fell found this satisfying, just to know that within himself he had the power to create and destroy if need be. He took a deep breath, glancing away from the tree, not even phased when another wolf was standing in front of him, it's crimson eyes narrowed as it studied the destruction.
"The point in the creation of spells is not destruction," It began, blood gaze swinging to hold that to Fell's, "but to do good for this realm. You have a gift, Fell, you should never use it in anger; at least... not in this sort of anger."
"I have a gift and I can use it the way I want to use it... Father." The younger wolf snapped, lips curling to expose ivory teeth.
"Just like Helios and I, you have a duty, Fell, it's time for you to begin following it. My brother guards the sun, and I the moon; it's your responsibility to protect this realm from the harm of things that stir in the darkest reaches of the Nether. The threat of those that hide upon the surface of this world, and those that taunt your brothers. Your creation has been the single most important accomplishment since the Elemental's created this world, Fell. You must give up your mortal life, my son, its been time for far too long." The head of this brute raised over Fell's own head, his eyes losing their pupils as he summoned his spiritual form.

Barthenial stared at Ethanial as he attempted to teach him the art of stalking. "When you're alone, in a one-wolf wolf pack, you will need to eat small mammals and learn to creep around, silent as the soil." He angered as the pup shook his head once again, laughing because he thought the saying was ridiculous. "I said silent." He hissed before crouching, crawling forward several feet, and then pouncing on the unexpecting squirrel. He carried the small kill over, boasting. He dropped it when Ethanial rolled his eyes.
"You expect to live off that thing. There's no meat on it, old wolf. Where are the deer and caribou my father used to bring me?" He wasn't searching for an answer, but merely barking an insult. A swift smack to the muzzle quieted him as he laid on the floor, placing a cold pad over it.
"That's enough out of you. I may be weak, but I'm helping you survive and you will respect me, understand?" A nod was all he needed. He turned around and stayed quiet, listening for the next victim to distract itself enough for him to move in.

Natasha stared out into the darkness for what seemed like hours. "The zoo is closed." She heard the announcer man tell some people who were begging to see one more exhibit. The zoo normally closed around 7, but it was pitch black at 6 so they decided to close early today. She snarled at the people, wondering why they couldn't just accept it and leave. She stood slowly and shook, her thick black fur springing back and forth before settling back into its' normal postition.
"Insh, get out." She told him harshly. She never slept with him in the cave, she always kicked him out. For a while, the humans had tried to make her stay in a steel cage at night, but after a few weeks of her refusing they gave up. Insh would do it with no problem, but they wanted her to get used to him, so they left him out with her.
They had been so steadfast that first week. After the first night she realized what was going on and refused. She snarled and leapt at them, scratching a few of them that second night. They gave up the day she almost bit someone, they decided it just wasn't worth the fight. All she did was pace and howl all night anyway, keeping all the rest awake. So she slept in her cave, warm and content, while Insh found a random spot in the dirt and tried to stay warm. She didn't feel to bad, he did have a lot of fur after all.

Auron silently walked towards the sound of the commotion. He found an older wolf reprimanding a pup. The hellfox watched the two with interest, amused at the cub's actions. He thought the older wolf most likely wasn't the father. Auron debated revealing his presence, but a sudden shift in the wind left him upwind from the pair. The old wolf's nose checked the air, detecting a scent. Auron cursed his luck and ducked into a nearby ravine, hoping to avoid the pair if their intentions proved hostile.

Barthenial sniffed the air, traces of something unfamiliar layered the air. He shook his head and began to trot off, well as much as he could with his limp. "Come on, Ethanial. I'm not sure we're safe here anymore." He saw the pup follow behind him. He knew the pup would follow him, despite his anger, because he knew Ethanial knew much more than he did and he would keep Ethanial safe until his death.
